In 1997, the average British home was 3.55 times the average salary, yet today its 7.7 times the average salary

However in 1997 the Mortgage payments as a % of income for was 27% and today its just 33%

So whilst the ratio of house price to income has more than doubled, the % of take home pay, paid on mortgages has only increased by just over a fifth.
